Team India defeated Sri Lanka in an engrossing Super Four clash of the 2023 Asia Cup on Tuesday, September 12 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. They pulled off a brilliant performance to bowl out the hosts for 172. India secured a 41-run victory and has advanced to the final of the ongoing continental championship.
The visitors started well with Rohit Sharma slamming a fifty. However, Dunith Wellalage brought Sri Lanka back into the game with his terrific bowling. India eventually managed 213 runs with Axar Patel contributing some runs lower down the order. In response, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage put up a good partnership, however, they failed to get them past the target, as Kuldeep Yadav wrapped up the innings. During the Asia Cup Super Four game against Sri Lanka, they set another record, this time as a batting pair. They surpassed the legendary West Indies duo of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes to become the fastest pair to reach 5,000 runs in ODIs.
The Indian pair of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took 86 innings to score 5000 ODI runs. Meanwhile, Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes achieved the feat in 97 innings. Kohli-Rohit is the eighth pair and the third from India to reach the landmark figure after Sachin Tendulkar Sourav Ganguly Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan.
#Fastest Indian spinner to take 150 wickets in ODIs
Kuldeep Yadav is having a great run in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 tournament. After his brilliant performance against Pakistan, he pulled off another match-winning spell. The Indian spinner 4 wickets for 43 runs in around ten overs. He also became the fastest Indian spinner to take 150 wickets in ODI cricket. Kuldeep has played 88 ODIs for India, with 6/25 as his best bowling figures.
#Youngest bowler to take 5fer in ODIs for Sri Lanka
Dunith Wellalage put up a great all-round show at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The youngster impressed the fans and the experts with his cricketing prowess. He took a fifer in the match, conceding 40 runs in 10 overs. He became the youngest bowler to take a 5-fer in ODIs for Sri Lanka. Dunith achieved the feat at the age of 20, while Charith Buddhika who previously held the record achieved this in 2001 against Zimbabwe at 21 years.Â
