Asia Cup 2023: Veteran Bangladesh Player Mushfiqur Rahim To Miss The Match Against India
Musfhqiur Rahim to miss Asia Cup final Super 4 game

Bangladesh will miss the service of experienced player Mushfiqur Rahim for their last Super 4 match against India to be played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 15th September due to the birth of his first child. Their performance in the Super 4 stage has been disappointing losing both matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

“Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still recovering [after giving birth], and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus said in a statement. “We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game.”

India’s 41-run victory over Sri Lanka meant Bangladesh had been knocked out of the tournament. They lost their first Super 4 match against Pakistan by 7 wickets at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore while failing to chase down 258 runs in their game against Sri Lanka to be knocked out of the tournament.

Bangladesh started the Asia Cup tournament with a crushing 5-wicket loss to host Sri Lanka in their first match at Palleke International Stadium, Kandy. They produced a dominating performance with an 89-run victory over Afghanistan with a superior net run rate to qualify for the Super 4 stage.

Mushfiqur Rahim

It was a disappointing batting effort by Bangladesh batters in the Super 4 match against Pakistan. Apart from the experienced pair of Shakib AL Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, none of them could score runs against Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s performance in Asia Cup 2023

The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim looked in decent touch during the 2023 Asia Cup for Bangladesh. He struggled during the opening match against Sri Lanka scoring 13 off 22 deliveries. After a superb partnership between Najmul Hasan Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rahim made a quickfire 25 off 15 deliveries against Afghanistan to help Bangladesh post 334 for 5.

Rahim was the top scorer with 64 runs and a superb 100-run partnership for the 5th wicket with Shakib AL Hasan. He struggled in the last Super 4 match against Sri Lanka scoring just 29 off 48 deliveries putting pressure on Bangladesh batting with dot deliveries.

Bangladesh are out of contention for the finals of the Asia Cup. They would hope to end the Super 4 stage with a win over India.
