Asia Cup 2023 Super 4: [WATCH] Shaheen Afridi Dismisses Shubman Gill With An Easy Delivery In The IND vs PAK Match

Shubman Gill, the opening batsman for Team India, was sent back to the pavilion after contributing 58 runs from 52 deliveries in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match against Pakistan at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, September 10th. In sharp juxtaposition to his initial confrontation with Pakistan just a week ago, Gill boldly faced the Men in Green’s opening bowlers and established a strong partnership with Rohit Sharma for the first wicket.

Throughout his innings, he displayed resilience and was determined to elevate it to a more substantial performance. Team India had recently suffered the loss of captain Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the 17th over, and Pakistan swiftly removed the other established batsman in the subsequent over.

Gill attempted to drive a delivery from the returning Shaheen Afridi but was caught off guard by the slower pace. The ball came off the bat quite high, resulting in him chipping it directly to Agha Salman at the cover position.

You can watch the dismissal here:

Shaheen Afridi initially struggled in an uncommonly expensive opening spell, conceding 31 runs in his first three overs. However, the dismissal of Gill provided a significant boost to his performance for the rest of the innings. Gill’s contribution of 58 runs from 52 deliveries included 10 boundaries and was achieved at a strike rate of 111.54.

India regrouping with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul following Shubman Gill’s exit

India took control at the beginning of their batting innings after Pakistan chose to field. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill formed a strong 121-run opening partnership. However, Pakistan regained momentum by dismissing both openers within seven deliveries.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are now batting, working to establish a partnership during the middle overs. Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf are looking to break this partnership, while Rahul has made a promising start. As of now, India is at 140-2 after 22 overs.

The current match against Pakistan marks the start of the Super Four stage for the Indian cricket team. They have upcoming matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the days ahead.
