Asia Cup 2023: [WATCH] Fakhar Zaman Assists The Ground Staff In Covering The Pitch As Rain Interrupts The India-Pakistan Match

Babar Azam won the coin toss and chose to field. The Super Four stage encounter between India and Pakistan commenced on September 10 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to field first.

Play was halted in the 25th over due to rain, with India at 147 for the loss of two wickets. Notably, Pakistan’s opener, Fakhar Zaman, was seen assisting the ground staff in covering the pitch during the rain delay. India initiated their innings explosively, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill displaying aggressive batting. Both batsmen reached fifty and forged a formidable 121-run partnership for the first wicket.

The Indian captain notched up 56 runs from 49 balls, featuring six boundaries and four sixes before being dismissed by all-rounder Shadab Khan. On the other hand, the young player accumulated 58 runs, with ten fours in his innings. The 24-year-old was taken out by the renowned fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, with Salman Ali Agha making a comfortable catch.

Pakistan is notably worried about Fakhar Zaman’s current form

Fakhar Zaman’s performance in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 has raised significant concerns for Pakistan. The 33-year-old opening batsman has had a disappointing tournament, managing only 34 runs at an average of 17.

In Pakistan’s Super Four stage opening match against Bangladesh, he managed to score only 20 runs from 18 deliveries. It’s worth noting that Pakistan convincingly defeated Shakib Al Hasan’s team by seven wickets with 63 balls to spare.

It is anticipated that Fakhar will need to deliver a significant performance for Pakistan in the current game against India and in the upcoming Super Four encounter against the co-hosts, Sri Lanka. The match between the two teams, who were finalists in the previous Asia Cup, is scheduled for September 14 in Colombo.
