It was an exciting day of test cricket between Australia and New Zealand on the 2nd day of 1st test match played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on 1st March 2024.

Starting the 2nd day on 279 for 9 with Cameron Green on 103 while Hazlewood on 0. Green showed intent putting pressure with some lusty shots keeping the momentum going for Australia. Josh Hazlewood also looked impressive making sure that they keep the scoreboard ticking.

Green launched an attack on New Zealand bowlers reaching 150 off 225 deliveries. It was an impressive batting performance as Green and Hazlewood made sure that Australia reached a competitive total. Josh Hazlewood was the final batter to be dismissed for a well-made 22. Josh Hazlewood and Green added 116 runs for the 10th wicket helping Australia post 383. Green registered his highest test score of 174 off 275 deliveries with 23 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Australian bowlers made good use of the conditions as they created enough pressure on Kiwi batters. Mitchell Starc dismissed Tom Latham with a lovely delivery. A horrible mix-up resulted in the run-out of Kane Williamson. Rachin Ravindra was dismissed without opening his account.

Daryl Mitchell and Will Young fell in quick succession to leave New Zealand in deep trouble at 29 for 5. Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips showed intent in putting pressure on Australian bowlers. After the tea break, both New Zealand batters kept the momentum going before Nathan Lyon struck getting rid of Blundell and Scott Kugglein off successive deliveries.  Phillps and Blundell added 84 runs for the 6th wicket.

Glenn Phillips showed his class with well-made 50 off 43 deliveries. Matt Henry and Phillps added some vital runs putting on 48 runs for the 8th wicket. Phillps was caught by Starc. Henry provided some entertainment before being dismissed for 42. Australia bowled out NZ for 179 with a lead of 204 runs.

In their 2nd innings, Australia got off to a worst possible start as Steve Smith was dismissed taking an inside edge onto the stumps. Southee struck again getting the wicket of Labuschagne down the leg. Nathan Lyon was sent as nigh watchman and survived drop chance off last delivery. Australia ended the 2nd day at 13 for 2 with a lead of 217 runs.

Cameron Green and Hazlewood added a record 116 runs partnership for the final wicket

Cameron Green and Hazlewood broke the highest 10th-wicket partnership by an Australian pair in Test matches. The previous best was by Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath against New Zealand in Brisbane in 2004.

Green registered his 2nd Test century surpassing his best score of 114 that he achieved during the final test match played at Ahmedabad against India last year.
