In a touching moment, Pakistan captain Shan Masood, representing his team, presented David Warner with Babar Azam’s signed jersey after the third Test in Sydney on Saturday, January 6. In a widely shared video on X (formerly Twitter), Masood invited Warner on stage during the post-match presentation, where they shook hands and posed with the jersey.
Masood said: “If we could just give as a token of appreciation and as a parting gift to David Warner. If he can come up to the stage, please. We just thought the whole squad would give you Babar Azam’s shirt as a gesture as a parting gift, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”
Warner replied: “Thank you so much!”

In his final Test, Warner achieved scores of 34 and 57 as Australia secured an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan, sealing a 3-0 whitewash. For those unfamiliar, Warner initiated his Test journey against New Zealand in 2011. The accomplished left-handed batsman concluded his remarkable career with 8786 runs in 112 Tests, boasting an average of 44.6. His impressive stats include three double centuries, 26 centuries, and 37 half-centuries.
The dynamic opener has also retired from ODIs, concluding his career with 6932 runs in 161 matches at an average of 45.01. This impressive record encompasses 22 centuries and 33 fifties. At 37 years old, he had a stellar year with the Australian team, securing two ICC trophies – the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup, triumphing over India in both events.
Australia secured an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in David Warner’s farewell Test in Sydney
Australia bid a fitting farewell to David Warner with an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third and final Test in Sydney. In their first innings, Pakistan posted a total of 313 in 77.1 overs, featuring half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan, Aamer Jamal, and Agha Salman. Rizwan and Jamal scored 88 and 82, respectively. Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, claimed five wickets, and Mitchell Starc took two.
Australia, in reply, was dismissed for 299, granting the tourists a narrow 14-run advantage. Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh both notched half-centuries. Aamer Jamal excelled with the ball for Pakistan, claiming 6-69, while Agha Salman secured two wickets.
In reply, Pakistan was dismissed for 115 in their second innings. Saim Ayub (33) and Babar Azam (23) made starts but couldn’t convert them into substantial scores. Josh Hazlewood excelled as the standout Australian bowler, claiming 4-16, while Nathan Lyon secured three wickets.
In their response, Pakistan’s Sajid Khan removed Usman Khawaja for a duck, but David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne paved the way for Australia’s third consecutive series win. The visitors, once again, faced disappointment as they hadn’t won a Test in Australia since 1995.
