Veteran Australia player David Warner became the third player in international cricket to feature across three formats. He achieved this remarkable feat during the first T20I match against West Indies that is currently going at Belivere Oval, Hobart on 9th February 2024. Warner took the role of captaincy in today’s match due to Mitchell Marsh having COVID. The stylish left-handed Warner showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the West Indies bowlers with innovative strokes.
He demonstrated power-hitting keeping the momentum going for Australia. At the end of first six overs, Australia raced away to 77 for 0. Warner scored at quick pace reaching fifty off just 22 deliveries. It was a brilliant knock as Warner was dismissed for 70 off 36 balls with 12 fours and 1 six. He and Josh Inglis put on 93 runs for opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total.
It was a brilliant outing for the stand-in captain Warner making the batting look easy and did not allow the West Indies bowlers to settle. He made his T20I debut against South Africa on 11th January 2009. Since then, Warner played a total of 100 matches with 2964 runs including 1 century and 25 half-centuries to his name. His best score in T20I format for Australia has been 100.
Warner was a part of the team that won the T20 World Cup played in United Arab Emirates in 2021. Warner retired from test cricket after the test series against Pakistan. He played a total of 112 Test matches (205 innings) with 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries to his name including best score of 335 against Pakistan.
He was a part of the winning team that won the 2015 World Cup in Australia. Warner also won the 50 over World Cup defeating India in the finals of 2023 World Cup.
