Prithvi Shaw Slams Blazing Century For Mumbai Against Chhattisgarh In Ranji Trophy

Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw smashed a blazing century against Chhattisgarh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match on Friday, February 9 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. He got Mumbai off an outstanding start with his performance.

Prithvi Shaw opened the batting alongside Bhupen Lalwani as Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first. The opening duo scored 244 runs for the first wicket partnership. Prithvi Shaw was the aggressor among the two, taking on the Chhattisgarh bowlers. He got to his century in just 102 deliveries in the first session itself. The youngster was dismissed by Vishvash Malik for 159 runs off 185 deliveries at a strike rate of 85.95. He smashed eighteen boundaries and three sixes during the knock.

This was the seventh instance that a Mumbai player has scored a century within a session of a match. This is Prithvi Shaw’s second match after returning to the sport following a long injury period. He sustained a knee ligament injury during the 2023 One-Day Cup competition in England. The right-handed batter scored 35 runs with five boundaries on his comeback to the sport against Bengal.

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane returns for Mumbai

Ajinkya Rahane has returned to the Mumbai playing XI for the Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. He missed the last game against Bengal due to a hamstring injury. The veteran batter has been struggling to find some runs under his belt in the tournament so far. He managed just 33 runs in five innings.

Mumbai also made a lot of other changes to their playing XI. Amogh Bhatkal is making his Ranji Trophy debut. Meanwhile, the likes of Shams Mulani, Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur were also included in the match against Chhattisgarh. Mohit Avasthi who took a ten-wicket haul in the last Ranji trophy game seems to have been rested.
