Australia Announce Strong T20I Squad To Face West Indies
Australia

Australia named a strong power-hitting squad for the 3-match T20I series against West Indies to be played at home. This marks an ideal preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup that will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America this year.

Mitchell Marsh has been named as the captain for this series. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith have been rested for the series as they are likely to be included in the T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand that will begin in late February.

They have not named a permanent captain in T20I since the retirement of Aaron Finch in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Aussies played only two T20I series as Marsh led to whitewash over South Africa by 3-0 last year and then lost the series against India by 1-4 with Matthew Wade leading an inexperienced team.

The main inclusion will be David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David. All of them need to return from the franchise duties and play 3 T20I matches against the West Indies side.

“I think we will decide on that post the New Zealand series,” Bailey said. “New Zealand will be the time when Andrew jumps back in so it’s a good chance to see how those two works together. Confident that’ll work, but we just haven’t seen it yet. That’s the way that’s tracking. Mitch will get the opportunity here and likely to get the opportunity in New Zealand as well.”

Australia announced a power-hitting squad

The Australian team includes top-quality power-hitters including Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and David Warner who can change the course of the game with their power-hitting.

The bowling department looks strong with the likes of Nathan Ellis, Jason Behrendroff, Sean Abbott, and Adam Zampa. Josh Hazlewood also returns to the T20I squad after resting from the ODI series against West Indies. He will not feature in the IPL 2024 this time and 3 matches each against West Indies and New Zealand would be an ideal preparation for Josh Hazlewood to be in contention for T20 WC 2024.

Australia will play 3 T20I matches starting on 9th February at Hobart, the second one will be played at Adelaide Oval on the 11th and the final one to be played at Perth on the 13th.
