“Time Will Come Sooner Rather Than Later” – Ravi Shastri On India Ending ICC Trophy Jinx

Former cricketer Ravi Shastri feels India will end their jinx at the ICC events soon. He shared his thoughts during the BCCI awards function on Wednesday, June 23 in Hyderabad. Ravi Shastri was awarded the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in the function.

Team India has hadn’t much luck in the ICC events in the last decade. They last won an ICC trophy in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Since then, India has managed to reach the knockouts and even finals on several occasions but hasn’t been able to clinch the trophy. They lost to Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup last year. Ravi Shastri, who was India’s head coach for most of the last decade, expressed,

“What I learned in those 30 years, 40 years being part of the game before I went into the, uh, team as a coach was, you got to get some enjoyment when you play the game. It can’t be a desk job from 9 to 6 where you feel the whole burden of the world on your shoulders. You’re playing in the sun, you’re playing sport. Get those buttons open and get out and play and enjoy it. That’s the only way you can express yourself. And I’m glad this team and they’ve been doing it, you know.”

“Unfortunately, they couldn’t win the World Cup, but the cricket and the brand of cricket played like Farook mentioned. It was great to watch. Great to commentate on. The time will come sooner rather than later,” he added.

India eyes to end ICC jinx at the 2024 T20 World Cup

Team India is gearing up for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in June later this year in the West Indies and USA. They lost to England in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup. They will be hoping to end the ICC trophy jinx during the upcoming tournament. India has recalled veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the T20 setup for the World Cup. They recently played whitewashed Afghanistan at home in a T20I series under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
