‘Australia Was Unwilling To Compete With Us Head-To-Head’: Ollie Robinson

The remaining Ashes series will require a different strategy from Australia, according to an English seamer.

Australia’s refusal to “go toe-to-toe with us,” according to England seamer Ollie Robinson, surprised him.

“We were surprised by how defensive Australia was and how hesitant they were to square off against us,” Robinson wrote in a Wisden column.

They have clearly benefited from it in this Test match. But given the way they’re playing right now, we believe that a pitch with a little more movement would be extremely helpful to us.

The Australians simply don’t act that cautiously and defensively. We felt like we had them under control the moment we saw the field for that first over.

Robinson also shared what England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, had said to the team after the game, “It feels like we’ve won, lads.”

Baz said it following the game, “It feels like we’ve won, lads. We’ve amused everyone on the planet and made the Australians look bad. It’s significant for us for him to say that after a defeat”, Robinson said.

“Of course it sounds strange because they won it, but I believe if they’re honest with themselves, Australia will examine themselves.”

“They need to change their approach to keep up with how we’re going to play. The way we’re playing compared to them will help us greatly if there is any movement in the Lord’s pitch.”

Robinson’s description of the Khawaja incident , “I didn’t realize the Ussie send-off was such a big deal until I got off the pitch and found my phone blowing up with friends texting me and it all going off.”

He continued, “I just got caught up in the moment.”

“I was desperate for a wicket because my bowling in the first innings wasn’t that good. Ussie was clearly the star because of his excellent play.”

“I had nothing against Ussie; it was just one of those times when I let my emotions get the best of me. “
