Australian Legend Shane Warne Passes Away At The Age Of 52

Australian legend and all-time great leg spinner Shane Warne has passed away at the age of 52. Warne’s management has issued a brief statement stating that he died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand.

The statement reads: “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.”

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

Shane Warne- The Spin Wizard

Shane Warne was one of the only two players to have taken over 1,000 wickets in international cricket. His 708 Test wickets were second overall and first among leg-spinners. Only Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, who has a record 800 wickets, is ahead of him. Warne finished the 2005 Ashes with 40 wickets at a bowling average of 19.92. He also contributed with the bat scoring 249 runs at an average of 27.66. It was, without a doubt, his greatest Ashes campaign.

His delivery, which puzzled Mike Gatting in 1993, is often considered as the best ever ball in cricket history. Gatting was shocked as the ball, pitched outside leg, spun in an unexpected way and kissed his off stump. Warne was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year twice in the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, and he was also named Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World twice. Between 1998 and 1999, Warne led Australia in 11 one-day internationals. Under Warne, Australia had a remarkable victory rate of 90.90 percent. In 2007, Shane Warne announced his retirement from international cricket.

Later in 2008, Shane Warne was picked as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals in the first IPL season. Despite having a team devoid of star players, Warne guided them to the trophy. His leadership was incredible throughout the season, particularly in the final against Chennai Super Kings.
