Australian Legend Shane Warne Puts His Hand Up For England Head Coach Job

Chris Silverwood was sacked as England’s head coach after the team’s dreadful 4-0 Ashes defeat in Australia. Ex-all-rounder Paul Collingwood has replaced him on a temporary basis.

Meanwhile, Former Aussie Leg-spinner Shane Warne has now expressed his interest in becoming England’s head coach for the men’s team. During a recent podcast episode, Warne stated that he would do an excellent job for the England team.

As a coach, Warne stated that working with the talented English players would be a great experience. According to him, England players are currently failing to master the fundamentals of the game.

“I’d like to do it, it’s a great time to be England coach. I think I’d do a pretty good job, there’s a lot to work with. There are so many good players in England and a lot of depth, but you’ve got to get some of the basics right. You can’t bowl no-balls and drop so many catches, but you’ve got the players, they’re just not performing.”, Warne said on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast.

It should be noted that Warne has mentored a number of notable sides, including the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and the London Spirit in The Hundred.

Shane Warne comes in support of former teammate Justin Langer

Shane Warne also slammed Cricket Australia for poorly handling the Justin Langer controversy. “Cricket Australia were disgraceful in the way they handled it.”, he said.

The 52-year-old was particularly disappointed about none of the Australian players standing up for Langer. “Winning an Ashes series and a World Cup, it doesn’t get much bigger than that. But [Langer] was a dead man walking. When I didn’t hear the captain or any other players sticking up for him, saying he was fantastic, I found that really disappointing.”, said Warne.
