Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has found himself becoming a part of yet another controversy. This time, however, the controversy has emerged from the world of politics. Much recently, in a post on social media on X, Shama Mohammed, a Congress leader, called Rohit Sharma unfit, or rather, fat to be playing in the Indian cricket team. This hasn’t sat well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Devajit Saikia, Secretary, BCCI, told NDTV that this remark from the congress politician is “unfortunate”. He said that such a trivial comment can have adverse effects on the team and the individual’s mindset, especially during such an important ICC (International Cricket Council) tournament.

Mohammed has now deleted the post from her social media account. Later, Mohammed clarified to ANI that her comments were rather a generic expression about the fitness standards of a sportsperson. She said that her intent was not to body shame. But Mohammed did mention that she felt that Rohit Sharma is a bit overweight.

Are there Fitness Concerns for Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma has never been seen as an unfit player in any format of the game. He still has excellent reflexes and is superb at taking close catches in the covers. In fact, Sharma has been a part of the Indian team for more than a decade, and he has never once been out of the team because of being “unfit” or not being able to pass fitness tests.
Sharma has often been called fat due to his body type. At present, the Indian cricket team has won all the matches in the league stage in the Champions Trophy 2025. Now India will face Australia in the semi-final. Australia has been one of the favourite teams for Rohit Sharma to play against in the white ball format. Sharma has scored several big centuries, including a double hundred against Australia.
