A new chapter in the captaincy has opened with the recent announcement of Ajinkya Rahane being named the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He takes over the captaincy from Shreyas Iyer, who decided not to renew his contract with the franchise before the IPL 2025 auction. Another auction pickup, Venkatesh Iyer, will support Rahane as vice-captain in the forthcoming season.

Rahane’s appointment seems to be a calculated choice, keeping in mind his rich experience of captaincy in the IPL, where he captain-alyzed teams like the Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 and 2019 IPL seasons. He is not new to KKR himself, having scored 133 runs in 7 matches in the 2022 season.

After a long absence with the KKR, Rahane’s two-year association with CSK saw his reinvention as a T20I player, which is expected to add a fresh dimension to KKR this time. With Rahane leading them, KKR will be proud to defend their champion crown in the IPL 2025 season.

“It’s an honour to be asked to lead KKR”- Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has rejoiced at being the new captain for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He added that it would indeed be a privilege for him to lead the side, as he emphasized the heaviness of the name itself.

“It’s an honour to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending our title,” said Rahane.

KKR squad for IPL 2025: Rinku Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, Ramandeep Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, Quinton de Kock, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Anrich Nortje, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Vaibhav Arora, Mayank Markande, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Spencer Johnson, Luvnith Sisodia, Ajinkya Rahane, Anukul Roy, Moeen Ali, Umran Malik.
