It is reported that the Indian Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) is thinking of introducing a new coach to the Indian Men’s International team as there has been a slump in the Test cricket performances.

According to Cricbuzz, the position of batting coach is under a lot of scrutiny, with insiders of the board and team management understanding the need to strengthen Gautam Gambhir’s backup team.

The proposed appointment should help the team to overcome the batting crisis that has characterized the team in the recent past. Since the BCCI seeks to strengthen the coaching structure, it must be their belief that more can be offered to the players in the way of guidance and expertise, factors that can translate positively on the field. The development is considered a precursor to correct the defects within the team, which has compromised their strength in international-level cricket.

BCCI considering adding new support staff

In the latest meeting of the BCCI about the team review, it was proposed that a new batting coach should be appointed to assist head coach Gambhir. The meeting on January 11 discussed India’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On this, it remains to be seen whether the BCCI will do so or not.

Currently, India has Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and T Dilip as the fielding coach. Test cricket has been testing for the team, which has recently emerged victoriously in only three out of the last 10 games.

The team was brushed aside by New Zealand at home and was outplayed 3-1 in Australia, with batting being a big worry. The job of a batting coach has been controversial and this specific appointment seeks to rectify this and positively affect the performance of the team.
