The whole world has come together to fight the pandemic coronavirus which has taken lives of more than 14000 people across the globe. Amid all the ruckus, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had postponed the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until April 15 which was scheduled to start from March 29.
Recent reports have emerged that tournament might get delayed with situations getting worse each passing day. While the fans are keenly waiting for the COVID-19 to settle down so that the organisers can go on with IPL 2020 but the chances are very gloomy.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has finally broken his silence on the future of IPL 2020. The statement from Ganguly has more or less has cleared that the future of IPL 2020 is all but over. He also added that there has been no progress in the last day when they sat to postpone the league.
“I can’t say anything at the moment. We are at the same place where we were on the day we postponed. Nothing has changed in the last 10 days. So, I don’t have an answer to it. Status quo remains,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI.

Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly indicated that hosting the tournament after three-four months is not possible considering the current Future Tour Program. He also said that with the entire country under lockdown, it has been impossible for them to work out an alternative plan to host the cash-rich league.
“You can’t plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It’s there and you can’t change the FTP. All around the world, cricket and more so sports has stopped,” he added.
In conclusion, Sourav Ganguly welcomed the lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 which has already taken lives of so many people. Currently, there are almost 500 positive cases in India with the death toll rising to nine.
