England all-rounder Ben Stokes performed relatively below-par in the Test series which England lost to India 4-1. Only in the fourth Test, he came up with his most valuable performance of the series. A 55 with the bat in the first innings and a four-wicket haul with the ball. However, it was not enough for as India beat England in the final Test in a rather comprehensive manner. Meanwhile, after the series, the England all-rounder shared an interesting anecdote from the series.

Talking to the British media Mirror Sport, Ben Stokes spoke about how he and a few of his England teammates lost weight during the series.

Jack Leach Spent More Time In The Washroom Than Ideal: Ben Stokes

“Players are totally committed to England and I think that was emphasized last week when a few of us went down with an illness that made operating in 41-degree heat particularly taxing,” Stokes was quoted as saying to Mirror Sport.

“I lost 5kg in a week, Dom Sibley 4kg and Jimmy Anderson 3kg among others. Jack Leach was ducking off the field in between bowling spells and spending more time than is ideal in the toilet” he added.

Stokes has further hailed the effort of his teammates despite the hot and humid conditions that was on offer during the series. Both Chennai and Ahmedabad had tough and testing conditions for the visitors very unlike what they get back in England.

“This is in no way an excuse because everyone was ready to play, and India and Rishabh Pant especially produced a terrific performance, but I take off my hat to the effort that was put in by players who gave everything they had to try and win for England,” he stated.

Meanwhile, England will be now playing a white-ball series under Eoin Morgan and Stokes will be a key member of that outfit. They will play five T20Is in Ahmedabad followed by three ODIs in Pune. The first of the five T20Is starts on March 12.
