Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series in Australia. The BCCI has named Harshit Rana as his replacement in the squad.
Additionally, spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been included, replacing left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was originally part of the provisional 15-man squad. The team management opted for Harshit Rana over Mohammed Siraj as Bumrah’s replacement.
Meanwhile, Siraj, along with Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, has been designated as a non-traveling reserve and will join the squad in Dubai if required.

Bumrah Unable to Recover in Time, Misses Champions Trophy 2025
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 was uncertain, and he ultimately failed to recover in time. His absence from the marquee ICC event is a significant blow for Team India.
According to an ESPN Cricinfo report, Bumrah has yet to fully recover from the injury he sustained during the BGT 2024-25 series. He was also ruled out of India’s home series against England. The fast bowler recently underwent scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
While the scans did not reveal any major concerns, he is reportedly not fit to resume bowling. The BCCI’s medical team will continue monitoring his progress, but there is no definitive timeline for his return.
According to the report, Bumrah is expected to start running in a couple of weeks and will gradually begin bowling at a reduced intensity. This isn’t the first time he has missed an ICC tournament due to injury.
