The buzz has already started after IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the commencement date of IPL 2020. Teams are likely to travel three-four weeks ahead of the start date to begin their preparations. But reports suggest that Chennai Super Kings are planning to begin their training from the first week of August.
Incidentally, March 29 was the start date for the 13th edition of the tournament. However, BCCI had to postpone the competition owing to COVID-19 pandemic. With no signs of improvement in the rise in cases, the apex council decided to move IPL 2020 outside India to the UAE.
Chennai Super Kings likely to begin training on first week of August
As we wait for the start of the cricketing festival, Chennai Super Kings are planning to begin their training earlier. As per reports in ESPNCricinfo, the management has asked the players to assemble in Chennai. From there, they will fly to the UAE via a charter plan and follow the necessary guidelines before resuming training. The three-time IPL champions are looking for a month’s preparation before the start of the tournament.
Incidentally, Chennai was the first team to begin training for IPL 2020 in March. The likes of skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla joined the camp in Chepauk Stadium. However, they had to return after the government implemented a nationwide lockdown.
Meanwhile, IPL Governing Council is likely to meet later today (August 2) to discuss on the further proceeding of the tournament. Also, the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) around securing eight teams for 51 days across three venues will be formally established in that meeting. They are also likely to reveal the schedule for the IPL 2020.
