In their last match of IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came out on top by beating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 83 runs. Still, CSK ended up last in the points table and had an unflattering record as a result. For the first time, CSK has finished at the bottom of the table in the history of the IPL. The Yellow Army had nothing to lose in this game, yet the defeat means GT’s hopes of ending in the top 2 are no longer clear.
This season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t perform at the same high level we’re used to. They picked Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead, but lost him early in the season after he was injured. In the opening five matches, CSK won only once while Gaikwad was in charge. After Dhoni replaced Ganguly, the team started to win a few more, recording victories in three of their next nine games. Those achievements did not allow them to reach the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings: Season of Disappointment
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ending their campaign early in the league is a disappointment to fans. From 2008 to 2019, CSK always made it to the second round of the IPL. Multiple league titles during that time showed how well they handled themselves in the league. In recent years, though, they have found it hard to keep that level of routine.
The team ended the 2020 season in seventh position out of eight teams and in 2022, it came in ninth of 10 teams. Even though they defended their title in 2023, RCB did not reach the second round in IPL 2024 and settled for fifth place. They have struggled greatly so far, finishing at the end of the table after failing to make a difference.
Because of their poor outcomes this year, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was placed with Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals, all missing out on the playoffs. Even after losing, CSK will try to recover and perform better when the season begins again. Following the lessons they learned, they’ll try to go back to what helped them succeed.
