The Royal Challengers Bangalore began their IPL 2020 in style. The Virat Kohli-led side defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai. However, when the RCB squad has released the exclusion of Chris Morris surprised many.
The RCB management opted to play with Dale Steyn instead of Morris. It was surprising as RCB acquired Morris for a whopping Rs. 10 crores in the IPL auction. Only after the match RCB’s Director of Operations, Mike Hesson confessed that Chris Morris is currently injured and is unlikely to play against KXIP.
Chris Morris unlikely to play against KXIP
Hesson revealed that Morris was supposed to feature in their opening game but unfortunately suffered a side strain. He added that Morris is recovering and is foreseen to play only after a game or two.
“Chris Morris, unfortunately, picked up a slight side strain a few days ago, he would have played a huge role through the middle and death overs, his batting would have had a huge impact as well. Hopefully, Chris will come into consideration for selection in a game or two, we will continue to monitor him,” said Hesson in a video posted by RCB.
Meanwhile, Morris was expected to be RCB’s main bowler during the death overs in the build-up of the tournament. The South African adjusts the balance of the RCB unit as he contributes with both bat and ball. The RCB management is currently taking no chances with the injury of Morris as it is going to be a long IPL 2020 season.
Furthermore, Morris is now likely to sit out during RCB’s next match against the Kings XI Punjab. The two sides will face each other on September 24 (Thursday) at Dubai International Stadium. With Morris expected to be out, Dale Steyn might again feature in the game against KXIP.
