CPL 2020: Darren Sammy Back At The Helm Of St Lucia Zouks

The star all-rounder of West Indies – Darren Sammy will be back at the helm of things of St Lucia Zouks for the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Notably, Sammy has been part of the St Lucia Zouks franchise since the inception of the franchise-based tournament in 2013.

Sammy has been a major attraction in the franchise-based leagues across the globe. His ability to contribute to all the three-departments of the game make him a go-to cricketer. He recently returned from Pakistan Super Kings, where he donned the coach’s hat of Peshawar Zalmi. Darren Sammy returned midway from the tournament amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

Honoured to lead Zouks: Darren Sammy

The 36-year-old all-rounder has been a legend and is excited to be back as the skipper of the Zouks. He is also helpful to bring back the trophy and present the fans a trophy. The franchise is yet to win the title and will be desperate to bring home the coveted trophy.  Sammy enjoys a good record in CPL with 856 runs from 52 matches and 23 wickets.

“The franchise is dear to my heart and this year I am honoured to lead the franchise one more time. Playing at home with passionate fans and the calibre of players I anticipate will be retained, I expect to bring silverware to St Lucia,” Sammy said.

“St Lucia Zouks is well on its way in securing its team of players and looks forward to a successful year of cricket in St Lucia,” he added.

Andy Flower – head coach of St Lucia Zouks is also looking forward to working with Darren Sammy. Previously, Sammy and Flower have worked together in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi and the former Zimbabwean cricketer hopes to recreate the magic again.

“I can’t wait to work closely with Daren and for the island of St Lucia. Have worked with Daren five years ago when he captained the Peshawar team in the Pakistan Super League and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. I know how passionate he is about his island and its cricket and we will do everything within our power to bring fun, entertainment, and success to St. Lucia,” Flower said.

CPL 2020 is slated to take place between August 19 and September 26, but the tournament organisers are currently watching the current situation with COVID-19 outbreak and will take a call shortly.
