The swashbuckling Team India opener Smriti Mandhana celebrates her 24th birthday today. Wishes have been pouring in ever since the clock ticked 12 at midnight. Born in Sangli, Mandhana has been making the headlines ever-since she bursts into the international circuit.

The southpaw made her ODI debut in 2013 while her Test debut came in 2014. In a short span, Mandhana has carved a niche for herself with her free-flowing batting ability. She was also a part of the ICC Women’s Team of the Year in 2016.

The cricketer, who took up cricket for fun, grabbed the limelight through stellar performances in the ICC Women’s World T20 in 2018. Her 178-run streak in five matches earned her the tournament’s third-highest run aggregator. Since then, she has been the heart of India’s batting.

Mandhana was the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2018. She also won the awards for ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year, ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, and BCCI’s Best Women’s International Cricketer of the Year in the same year (2018). She was also the No.1 ranked ODI batswoman for a major part of 2019.

So far, she has represented India in two Test matches, 51 ODIs, and 75 T20Is amassing 81, 2025, and 1716 runs recently. She is currently in the No.4 in the ICC ODI Rankings. She was also a part of the Indian team which made it to the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. They lost to the host in a jam-packed Melbourne Cricket Ground.
