1. India versus Pakistan, Round Robin, 1992 World Cup

The first match between India and Pakistan in World Cup history was played on 4th March 1992 at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG. In a match reduced to 49 overs a side, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and decided to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar 54* Ajay Jadeja 46, Kapil Dev quick-fire 35 off 26 balls helped India to post 216 for 7 in 50 overs.

Defending the target of 217 runs to win, it was a superb bowling effort by the Indian bowlers to dismiss Pakistan for 173 in 48.1 overs. For Pakistan, Aamer Sohail was the top scorer with 62 for Pakistan. Manoj Prabhakar, Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath took 2 wickets each while Sachin Tendulkar and Raju took 1 wicket each. India won the match by 43 runs.
