The stage is all set for the prestigious World Cup which is scheduled to take place from May 30. England will play South Africa in the tournament opener and teams are in a huddle to reach the English land.
This time the number of teams have been reduced to 10 when compared to 14 in 2015. All the teams will play a game against each other and the top four teams progress to the semi-finals of the tournament. Have ever been thinking about the prize money for the winners other than the World Cup?
The International Cricket Council on Friday has said that it has increased the prize money for the winners and runners by 25% when compared to the previous edition. The winners will now receive $4 million (INR 28.04 crore) whereas the runners will receive half of the above amount. In 2015 the cash prize was $3.75 million and $1.75 million respectively.
The total purse for this edition of the world cup will be $10 million, where six million will be shared between the finalists. The teams reaching the semi-final stage will receive $8,00,000 each whereas the teams ending their journey in the league stage will be getting only $1,00,000.
The total prize money structure has been reconstructed when compared to the previous edition by $2 million. It is to be noted that preparations have been on the full scale for all the teams. While Bangladesh and Windies are already playing the triseries against Ireland, the hosts England are playing Pakistan in a 5-match ODI series now.
