Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Dan Christian has been roped in by Sydney Sixers on a two-year deal. The all-rounder will join the defending champions ahead of BBL 2020-21 and will be an important player for the quest for their title defence. The Sixers won the BBL title last season beating the Melbourne Stars.
Sydney Sixers – Dan Christian’s Fourth BBL Franchise
Dan Christian has been playing in franchise T20 cricket leagues all over the world. The Sixers will be his fourth club in the BBL and his 17th T20 franchise overall. He is pretty excited to join the club before he calls time on his career.
“You don’t always get your fairy tales in sport but having played this T20 format for a long time this sounded like a good opportunity to bookend my career at home,” Christian said. “Although I am not saying this will definitely be my last contract, the chance to come back and play at the SCG with guys like Moises (Henriques) and under Greg Shipperd (head coach) was too good to miss” said Christian.

Dan Christian further said that he hasn’t had a word with either of the coach or the captain so far, but will continue donning the finisher’s role for the side.
“I haven’t talked to Shippy and Moises too much about a role yet but having watched the Sixers a lot over the last few years and understanding their strengths, I hope I can bowl a few overs when needed and strengthen that finishing role with the bat to help close those last 5 or 6 overs out,” said Christian.
The Sixers coach Greg Shipperd was excited to get the services of Christian for his side. “I’m thrilled that we could add Dan to our championship-winning squad. He’s one of the most sought after T20 players globally and will bring a wealth of experience and all-round skills to our group” said Shippered.
Dan Christian Adds With His Leadership Qualities: Sixers coach
The Sixers coach further said that Dan Christian will also add his leadership qualities to the side and will form a good combination with Moises Henriques.
“Dan also adds to our leadership strengths and I’m confident he will bring forward some enlightening thoughts on the game,” Shippered said.
Christian and Henriques have played together for the New South Wales, the Australian Cricket team and for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.
