Former Australian opener David Warner has been charged with drunk driving in Sydney on Tuesday, April 7. Reports say he went over the allowed alcohol limit during a breath test. Because of this, he was taken to Maroubra Police Station and will now have to appear in court in May.

A statement about this said (via News18):

“About 5:30 pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver, a 39-year-old man, to roadside testing, which returned a positive result.”

David Warner is currently playing in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as the captain of Karachi Kings. He had gone back to Australia for personal reasons during the tournament.Karachi Kings are doing really well so far.

Winning all three of their matches and looking strong to go far in the tournament. Warner has also been in good form, scoring 93 runs with an average of 31 and a strike rate close to 139. Their next match is against Peshawar Zalmi at home in Karachi on Thursday, April 9.

David Warner hasn’t played in the IPL since 2024

David Warner is one of the most successful batters in IPL history. The 39-year-old has scored over 6,565 runs and is the highest run-scorer among overseas players.

He also captained SunRisers Hyderabad to their only IPL title in 2016. However, he hasn’t played in the IPL since 2024, when he had a poor season with Delhi Capitals, scoring just 168 runs in eight matches at an average of 21.

Warner was not picked by any team in the IPL 2025 mega auction and also did not sign up for the 2026 mini auction. The Australian star retired from international cricket in June 2024 after Australia’s disappointing campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
