Delhi Capitals Name Ex-England Star As IPL 2025 Mentor

Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) have named former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen as their mentor. Pietersen, who previously played for the franchise in 2012 and 2014, was officially announced as the mentor on Thursday, February 27, through the ‘DC Fan Sabha’ app.

During his two seasons with Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Pietersen amassed 599 runs in 18 matches at a strike rate of 136.14. In his international career, he represented England in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs, and 37 T20Is.

Overall, Kevin Pietersen featured in 36 IPL matches, scoring 1,001 runs at an average of 37.07 and a strike rate of 134.72, with one century and four half-centuries. Notably, he was the most expensive IPL player in 2009 when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) acquired him for $1.55 million.

Following the official announcement, Delhi Capitals also shared a video on X (formerly Twitter).

“Tell the world, KP is back home! ❤️💙,” the post was captioned.

Delhi Capitals set sights on first-ever IPL title in 2025 season

Delhi Capitals remain one of the few teams yet to secure an IPL title. They came closest in 2020 but fell short in the final against Mumbai Indians. In IPL 2024, the franchise finished sixth, missing out on the playoffs for the second consecutive season since their last appearance in 2022.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Delhi Capitals have made significant changes to their coaching setup. Hemang Badani has been appointed head coach, while Venugopal Rao takes over as Director of Cricket.

Former Indian cricketer and 2011 World Cup winner Munaf Patel has been brought in as the bowling coach, with Vijay Bharadwaj serving as the talent scout. Just recently, the team added former England coach Matthew Mott as an assistant coach.

Now, they have also named Kevin Pietersen as their mentor, further strengthening their coaching staff.
