Former cricketer VVS Laxman has questioned India’s injury blows ahead of the 2nd Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. Laxman pointed out that captain Virat Kohli didn’t speak a word on the injuries in the pre-match press conference and wondered if anything happened in the morning.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday morning announced that senior cricketers Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma all have suffered injuries during the 1st Test and will miss the final match of the series.

The turn of events left many in shock and VVS Laxman questioned the injuries during his appearance on Star Sports. He said:

“Did something happen this morning? But Virat Kohli said nothing about in the press conference yesterday. It is obviously a big blow. Jadeja was injured in that England series and Axar Patel came in and he was named Player of the Series.”

The BCCI release revealed that Ajinkya Rahane has suffered a hamstring injury while veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has dislocated his finger. Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, has suffered a right forearm injury.

Mayank Agarwal holds fort for India as Ajaz Patel runs through the other end

Opting to bat first, Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill gave India a good start, adding 80 runs for the first wicket before Ajaz Patel scripted a mini-collapse. Gill survived a stumping chance but nicked off the very next ball. Pujara survived an lbw call but was stumped the very next ball before Virat Kohli got out to a controversial decision from the third umpire.

India suddenly went from 80/0 to 80/3 with Mayank Agarwal and last match’s player of the match Shreyas Iyer middle. They revived the innings with an 80-run stand before Iyer walked back after a patient knock of 18 runs.

India will hope Mayank to convert the start into a big century and propel the hosts to a big score alongside Wriddhiman Saha.
