India have been dealt with massive blows with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of the 2nd Test against New Zealand, scheduled to commence today in Mumbai. Incidentally, the match has been delayed due to a wet outfield.

Rahane, who led the side in the first Test in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, has suffered a hamstring injury while fielding on the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. He has not recovered fully and has been rested for the 2nd Test.

“Ajinkya Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain while fielding on the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI Medical team,” a BCCI statement said.

On the other hand, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has dislocated his finger during the 1st Test and he is being closely monitored by BCCI’s medical team.

“Fast bowler Ishant Sharma dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. He is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. The BCCI Medical team will continue to monitor his progress,” the statement added.

Ravindra Jadeja, who made useful contributions with both bat and ball, also copped a blow during the 1st Test and has been rested.

“All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test match in Kanpur. After undergoing scans, he was diagnosed with a swelling on his forearm. He has been advised rest and is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai,” it added further.

Meanwhile, India captain Virat Kohli has joined the squad and is available for selection.
