Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra took a dig at Arjuna Ranatunga over his recent comments after India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI. Meanwhile, India outperformed Sri Lanka in all three aspects of the game.
The Men in Blue looked a dominant side in the match, as they won the match with 80 balls remaining. The youngsters of India showed aggressive intent in the match.
Recently World Cup-winning captain of Sri Lanka Ranatunga stated that it’s an insult for Sri Lanka that India sent a ‘second-string lineup’ for the tour. However, after India’s dominance that in the first match, Aakash Chopra came up with a reply. Chopra said it looked like the Indian team took the ‘second string’ comment on the heart and played aggressively.
“Did you take it to heart? Arjuna Ranatunga had said that a second-string team had been sent and that it was an insult to them. 262 runs are not that few that you win the match like this by seven wickets and 15 overs are left,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
Aakash Chopra showers praise on the youngsters of team India
While opening the innings with captain Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw played a destructive inning. Meanwhile, Shaw smashed 9 fours in his 24 balls innings and scored 43 runs at the strike rate of 179.16. After Shaw’s carnage ended, Ishan Kishan came up with the explosive knock. Kishan scored sensational 59 runs off 42 deliveries in his ODI debut.
Aakash Chopra believes that it was an amazing display of explosive batting by youngsters. He also lauded Dhawan for playing the role of anchor. Notably, Dhawan played captain innings and scores 86 runs for the team.

Meanwhile, the biggest highlight of India vs Sri Lanka was the comeback of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. After a long time, the spin duo was seen playing together. Kuldeep and Chahal both bagged two wickets each. Also, India won the match comfortably by 7 wickets.
