Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked India’s probable playing XI for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 tournament. Team India, will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Monday, August 8 announced the 15-member squad for the tournament. Following the announcement, Aakash Chopra expressed his thoughts on India’s playing XI.

In a video on the former cricketer’s Youtube channel, he pointed out that KL Rahul is likely to open the innings along with skipper Rohit Sharma. However, he added that it would not be a surprise if Virat Kohli opens the innings instead of Rahul.

“They have experimented so much in opening that we might see some more experiments. It is possible Rahul does not open and Virat Kohli opens,” said Aakash Chopra.

The former cricketer further picked Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Deepak Hooda in the middle order. He selected Rishabh Pant as the wicket-keeping option. Aakash stated that Dinesh Karthik might not get a chance, as India needs a floater batter who can bowl. He said,

“That means Suryakumar at No. 5 or No. 6 because Hardik Pandya is also there, then why were you making him open for so long? Dinesh Karthik might not be able to get a place in the XI. Deepak Hooda’s selection shows that team needs a floater who can bat down the order and give you some bowling as well.”

They can go with four bowlers: Aakash Chopra picks India’s bowling attack

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed that India can afford to play four bowlers, as Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda can contribute four overs between them. He picked Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as his four main bowling options.

“They can go with four bowlers and you can get four overs from Hardik Pandya and Hooda. That could be the thought process, that you play Jaddu and Chahal. Two fast bowlers – Arshdeep and Bhuvi because you might not want to play Avesh as of now,” said Aakash Chopra.

Aakash Chopra’s Indian XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh.
