Captain Dipendra Singh Airee did an amazing job in all departments to lead Sudurpaschim Royals to their third victory in a row. He took four wickets for just 23 runs, which was a significant contribution in reducing the opponent’s batting strength. Additionally, he scored 39 runs off 28 balls, which gave his team’s innings the vital push.
The day-night match at TU International Cricket Stadium saw Sudurpaschim’s complete dominance as they succeeded in restricting Karnali Yaks even though they had a low total.
The champions did not change their approach and exposed the weak spot in their batting by scoring just 139 runs, but on the other hand, the bowling side showed great skills in limiting the score of their opponents.
The 45-run victory margin clearly indicated Sudurpaschim’s dominance and also placed them at a very comfortable spot in the tournament ranking. The Royals, with six points from three games, have taken the lead in the points table, and by doing so, they have asserted themselves as tough rivals.
Karnali Yaks were bowled out for 94 runs
Karnali Yaks’ chase for 140 runs turned out to be a huge disappointment for them as they got bundled out for a paltry 94 in only 19.2 overs. The highest scorer among the batters was Pawan Saraf with 27 runs, while Mark Watt (17), captain Sompal Kami (14), and Gulshan Jha (13) were just a few who offered very little resistance.
The Sudurpaschim bowling department wreaked havoc, as captain Airee took four wickets, and Harmit Singh and Abhinash Bohra had two scalps each to their names. It was a lopsided contest depicting the execution and tactics of Sudurpaschim at their best, thereby solidifying their top rankings in NPL 2025’s second edition.
Although Sudurpaschim’s 139-run total, which was supported by Airee’s 38-run partnership with Aarif Sheikh (27) and Harmit Singh (19), was not great, it was more than enough as they lost nine wickets in the end. The three wickets taken by Kamij and the economical two wickets by Yadav could not save Karnali’s campaign.
The loss puts Karnali down to sixth place with two points, while Sudurpaschim goes back up to first place. Biratnagar Kings further cemented their position in second place by defeating Janakpur Bolts by nine runs in the evening match.
