Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers feels England all-rounder Ben Stokes can’t be valued in terms of money. Even though at the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi in 2023, he secured a lucrative contract with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

CSK paid a hefty fee of INR 16.25 crores to get the England Test captain on Friday, December 23. The four-time IPL champions have just made their most expensive buy in IPL auction history. In the IPL auction 2023, he was likewise the third most expensive pick.

There is no amount, according to RCB veteran AB de Villiers, that can match Stokes’ potential. The former Proteas skipper discussed the traits and skills of the England all-rounder on JioCinema.

“Yaa lucky team (CSK). Don’t think there’s any amount of money for Ben Stokes in my opinion. An unbelievable player, he is a leader, his experience with both bat and ball in the field,” De Villiers said.

“He is going to win you games in cricket and that’s what you want. I actually think he is a bit undervalued, in my opinion, and underpaid. He is going to bring a lot to the party,” he added.

Ben Stokes career in the IPL

After playing for Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL 2017 season under the guidance of Steve Smith, Stokes will reconnect with CSK captain MS Dhoni.

The last time the England all-rounder played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) was in IPL 2021, but a fractured finger prevented him from playing the rest of the season. He chose to withdraw from the 2022 IPL mega auction in order to concentrate on England’s Test cricket and was then available to play county.

The Englishman outbid the now-defunct franchise Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 auction by INR 14.50 crores.

Given that MS Dhoni will be playing his last IPL in 2023 it’s very likely that the reins of captaincy will be passed to Stokes.
