His forefathers migrated to the Caribbean. He was born in 1988 in Arima, Trinidad, and Tobago. Narine made his debut for West Indies in 2011 against India in an ODI match.

The off-spinner played six Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is for the West Indies from 2011-2019. He has 21 Test, 92 ODI, and 52 T20I wickets to his name. Sunil Narine played his last match for the West Indies in August 2019 against India. He has also played across the world in several T20 leagues. In the Indian Premier League, the mystery spinner plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
