Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked his Indian playing XI for the fifth Test against England. Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester will host the final tie of the series starting from September 10 (Friday).
After an emphatic win at Kennington Oval, London, India is leading the five-test series 2-1. Heading into the final test, the focus is on India’s playing XI for the match. Aakash Chopra has predicted as many as three changes in the team.
The former cricketer took to Twitter to share his India playing XI for the Manchester test match. He wrote,
“All Test negative. How’s this for India’s XI for Old Trafford…a ground where India’s never won a Test. 1.Rohit 2.Rahul 3.Pujara 4.Kohli 5.Vihari 6.Pant 7.Shardul 8.Ashwin 9.Shami 10.Bumrah 11.Umesh. Kya bolti junta?“

The former cricketer has dropped the out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane from the XI. Rahane has scored just 109 runs in seven innings at an average of 15.57. Aakash Chopra believes Hanuma Vihari should replace the Indian vice-captain in the team. He has also predicted that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin should finally get an opportunity in place of Ravindra Jadeja.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj, who has played all the four Tests so far, should be rested making way for Mohammed Shami.
India cricketers test COVID-19 negative
The fifth and final test match between India and England is likely to go ahead as per the schedule. The match was in jeopardy as India’s assistant physio, Yogesh Parmar, tested positive for the covid-19 virus.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India held talks with its players and the England and Wales Cricket Board regarding the future of the series. With all the Indian players testing negative for the virus, both the boards are keen to go ahead with the series as per the schedule.
