England batting coach Marcus Trescothick was a concerned man after his batters were bundled out for 183 in the first innings of the Trent Bridge Test. Four of their batsmen scored ducks as the team relied heavily on Joe Root in the absence of Ben Stokes. Root scored 64 off 108 as he tried to keep the scoreboard ticking. At last, the inexperienced England batsmen succumbed to the consistent bowling of the Indian bowlers.

Attending the press conference after the day’s play, Marcus Trescothick praised the Indian team for being prepared for the tour. He said about the Indian team having all their bases covered and their bench strength looking great as well.

“They are the most potent in comparison to where they have been for the past few years. They have a lot of bases covered. You can see the guys are not playing, how much quality they have also. They have a good stock currently. They don’t get to the World Test Championship final for no reason. We saw them go to Australia and perform there, so it’s no surprise to us,” said Trescothick during a virtual press conference after the first day’s action.

Trescothick further admitted that the England team needs to raise their game to be more competitive against this particular Indian team.

“It’s just challenging and we know it’s a real contest, we have to raise our game to match up against their skills. We have that ability, it’s just making sure we do it better than we have done today,” he added.

The England batting coach also shed light on his team’s batting collapse saying that they had their chances in the game but losing wickets at regular intervals hurt their chances of putting up a big score.

“Of course we’re disappointed not to get more runs on the board. There were times we were playing well and getting right on top of the game and then obviously we lost wickets in clusters so it turned on its head quite quickly” said Trescothick.

India at stumps were 21 for no loss with their openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma batting on nine each.
