England lost two quick wickets after team after the Indian team posted 364 batting first. Opener Dom Sibley was caught at short mid-on while Haseen Hameed being drafted into the side was out for a first-ball duck. Mohammed Siraj removed both the batsmen in consecutive deliveries to leave England reeling from 23/0 to 23/2. This happened after India posted 364 batting first. Meanwhile, Michael Holding, the former West Indies pacer was not happy with England skipper Joe Root.

Joe Root’s decision to not come up the order in the first innings left the former Windies legendary pacer gutted. Holding expected Root to bat higher up the order after the fall of the first wicket. However, he walked out to bat at number four after the fall of Hameed’s wicket. Holding was off the view that Root batting up the order would have save England another wicket which was crucial.

Speaking at his commentary stint for Sky Sports Holding said “Its not what you like, it is what your team needs” on Root’s decision to hold onto his number four spot. England needed Root to walk in at number three after the fall of Sibley’s wicket but he walked out to bat after England lost two quick wickets.

India, on the other hand, lost their last eight wickets for 88 runs. KL Rahul added just two runs to his overnight score and was dismissed for 129 finally. Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form continued as he was dismissed for one. Rishabh Pant scored 37 and Ravindra Jadeja scored a crucial 40. They both added 49 runs which was instrumental in helping India getting past 350. Jadeja was the last wicket to fall on 40 as James Anderson took another fifer in Test cricket.
