Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the entire English summer after aggravating his long-standing elbow injury. The ECB in their recent update on Archer said that he will be missing the ongoing England series, followed by the T20 World Cup and Ashes series. Undergoing further scans on his right elbow, the assessment has been made and the England pacer has suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow.

Jofra Archer being ruled out has got the management thinking ahead of key international commitments. An untimely injury at his home further aggravated the injury as he had to undergo a surgery which ruled him out of the start of the IPL season and England’s two-Test match series against New Zealand.

Jofra Archer’s Test Career Might Be Over: Michael Vaughan

Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has feared that the promising pacer’s Test career might be all but over due to his recurrent injury. Vaughan gave the example of Graeme Swann as he was forced to retire early because of chronic problems in his joints.

“You have to fear for Jofra Archer’s Test career now. If the elbow is that bad, why would he want to risk further injury by bowling 25 overs a day in Test cricket? Players can now earn a very good living in Twenty20 and Archer is one of the world’s best white-ball bowlers,” Vaughan explained.

In May this year, Archer had an operation to remove bone fragment from his right elbow. The surgery was unrelated to a previous stress fracture, which was discovered in early 2020.

Vaughan said that the task of choosing for the upcoming Ashes series now becomes tougher with the absence of Archer and his sheer pace. Archer last featured in an international game during March 2021 in a five-match T20I series against India.
