Wanindu Hasarange became a household name in Sri Lankan cricket after the team’s recent white-ball series against India at home. Sri Lanka lost the ODI series but bounced back well to win the T20I series 2-1. Hasaranga had a big role to play in Sri Lanka’s series win as he finished the T20I series with seven wickets from three games. He took four wickets in the decider T20I in Colombo and ended as the Man of the Match and the series for his performance.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Wanindu Hasaranga has decided to skip CPL 2021 for national commitments. He was to play for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the tournament. After the series against India, Sri Lanka will play another T20I series against South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup. The Lankan cricket board has even confirmed the schedule of the tour. The teams will play three ODIs and as many T20Is between September 2 to 14. The ODIs will be played on September 2, 4 and 7 followed by the T20Is on September 10, 12 and 14. All the matches will be played in Colombo.

“We are delighted to have another tour confirmed for the Proteas men’s team with the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner. Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for our team to prepare for this event and we are grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for accommodating us during this time of the year where schedules are highly condensed.” The CSA’s acting CEO Pholetsi Moseki had asserted as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.

Hasaranga spun a web around the Indian batsmen taking his best T20I figures of 4/9 in the decider against India. His spell ensured that India were bowled out for 82 in the final game as Sri Lanka chased down the target inside 15 overs.

There are also reports that the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore requesting the BCCI to sign Hasaranga as a replacement for Adam Zampa in the remaining season in the UAE. The UAE leg of the IPL 2021 will be played between September 19 to October 15.
