Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan feels it’s only a matter of time before Rohit Sharma scores his first overseas Hundred in Test cricket.

In the Lord’s Test, Rohit missed out on the achievement as he fell for 83 runs off 145 balls. He was set up by James Anderson, who bowled an outswinger and then followed it up with an inswinger to bowl Rohit out.

Michael Vaughan in his interaction with Cricbuzz praised the Indian opener for his free-flowing knock. He said:

“He was the aggressor in that partnership. I don’t know how Rohit Sharma hasn’t got an overseas hundred. I was in a commentary today and the producer was in my ear, saying he’s getting close to his first hundred outside India and I was like, ‘What? How has he never got a hundred overseas?!’. But, it’s only a matter of time. I’m sure he’ll tick that box at some stage throughout this series. He seems to have all the time in the world to play the strokes, leave the ball, and get out of the way of any kind of short delivery. He’s in fine form.”

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul partnership may be the difference between India and England: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan further added that the opening partnership can turn out to be the difference between the two teams. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put together a 126 runs stand for the first wicket. The duo started quietly, seeing off the new ball, and then Rohit took on the opposition bowlers.

“I think that the opening partnership may be the difference (between India and England). If you look at England’s opening partnership at Nottingham, it’s under a huge amount of pressure here at Lord’s. The Rohit Sharma-KL Rahul partnership worked at Nottingham, it’s now working at Lord’s in testing conditions.

“It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t that the ball was doing nothing, it was doing plenty. And even at the end of the day, the ball was offering something for the seamers. India has had a crackerjack of a day,” said Michael Vaughan.

KL Rahul (127*) and Ajinkya Rahane (1*) will resume the Indian innings at 276/3 on day two at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
