ENG vs IND: Mohammed Siraj Fined For Ben Duckett Send-off
Mohammed Siraj.

Mohammed Siraj, an Indian fast bowler, has been fined 15 percent of his match fees attributable to a breach of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on day four of the third test match against England during the third test match played at Lord’s. Siraj was guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which has to do with the use of language, action, or gesture that disparages or could infer an aggressive response towards a batter in the wickets during an International Match.

It happened in the sixth over of England’s second innings as Siraj, after sending opener Ben Duckett back to the pavilion, celebrated too much right up under the nose of the English batsman. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.

Mohammed Siraj, a fast bowler from India, accepted the sanction and confessed the offense. He was also charged with a single point that was imposed on the list, indicating disciplinary actions. This is the second offense in a row, and this makes his demerit point count in the 24-month period two. The right-arm pacer had been handed his previous demerit point in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide in 2012.

The fine and demerit point is a way of telling the players to uphold a certain amount of decorum when playing international matches. The one act of Siraj was a celebratory one but it is crossing the limit as per the ICC code of conduct.

In case Siraj continues to receive demerit points on his record, he will risk additional penalties up to suspension. In the interim, the fine and the demerit point will probably act as a caution to the Indian fast bowler that he should do better to mind the demeanor he develops on the field.
