ENG vs IND: Ravi Shastri Blasts Indian Bowlers For Their Poor Show

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri did not hold back while criticizing India’s bowling attack during England’s first innings in the ongoing Test series. On commentary, Shastri expressed strong disapproval of the way Indian bowlers allowed England to bounce back after early breakthroughs.

Specifically naming Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and debutant Anshul Kamboj, Shastri described their efforts as “rubbish” and accused them of letting the opposition off the hook with lackluster execution. His comments came as England gained momentum after India had initially created pressure by picking up early wickets.

England Batters Seize the Opportunity

After a shaky start, England capitalized on India’s inconsistent bowling. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett led the charge, both scoring solid half-centuries that helped shift the momentum back in England’s favor. Crawley was particularly aggressive, while Duckett anchored the innings with composure.

The partnership frustrated the Indian bowlers, who were unable to maintain the pressure or exploit the initial breakthroughs. Shastri emphasized that it was not about just bowling but about applying intelligent strategies, maintaining intensity, and not allowing batters to settle. He pointed out that the bowlers’ erratic lines and lengths gave the English batters too many scoring opportunities.

Lack of Discipline and Control Hurts India

Shastri’s frustration stemmed from the noticeable lack of control and discipline in the bowling spells from some of India’s most experienced pacers. Jasprit Bumrah, known for his precision, appeared slightly off-rhythm, while Siraj failed to bowl consistently in the right areas. Debutant Anshul Kamboj, understandably nervous, lacked penetration and control. The former coach stressed that India could have had England in a more vulnerable position had the bowlers stuck to the basics and stayed aggressive.

He also highlighted the importance of backing up breakthroughs with relentless pressure, something India failed to do. Shastri’s remarks served as a reminder that in Test cricket, lapses in concentration or discipline can quickly change the course of a match.
