ODI cricket finally returned as the three-match series between England and Ireland began. England flexed their muscles from the very first over and exerted constant pressure of the Irish batting line up. David Willey starred as he snaffled 5 wickets and played a key role in wrapping Ireland for only 172. Curtis Campher gave an excellent account of himself in his debut match and scored a fine half-century.
After a slight hiccup, in the beginning, the experienced batsmen of England recovered and won the match comprehensively. Sam Billings top-scored with 67* and he was ably supported by captain Eoin Morgan who made 36*. The World Cup champions chased down the total in less than 30 overs and now lead the series 1-0. The second ODI between the two sides will be again played at Southampton tomorrow.
