Indian Premier League has oftentimes been a springboard to stardom for several cricketers. Not only Indian players but also foreign players want to feature in the most notable T20 league in the world. The level of cricket in the IPL is near to that of international cricket as almost every top cricketer plays in the league.
England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has told that IPL takes players out of their comfort zones. He added that there is enormous pressure on players while playing in front of packed houses in the IPL.
Morgan further pointed out that he pushed former England coach Andrew Strauss to let players go to the IPL.
Morgan said, “You are playing as an overseas player who can take one of four spots. So there is a huge pressure to make the XI. Two, the pressure of expectation playing around India is enormous. It takes you out of your comfort zone. I pushed Andrew Strauss to let England players go to the IPL”, Eoin Morgan told Harsha Bhogle in an interview with Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, several key England players are currently an integral part of various IPL teams. The likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer among others have all hailed the experience of playing in the IPL. Morgan admitted that now England cricket is using the IPL as a vehicle to try and grow their players.
“We’ve had Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer being stars in the IPL. That has been a big change in mindset for us. Jonny Bairstow has done well recently. Hopefully, there will be more. We are using the IPL as a vehicle to try and grow players.” said England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan.
Eoin Morgan in his IPL career has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Banglore, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meantime IPL 2020 is now all set to be played in UAE between September 19- November 8. Whereas Morgan will return to action tomorrow as he will lead his side against Ireland in the first ODI of 3 match series.
