Fans Criticize Pakistan Stadiums’ Drainage After Three CT 2025 Washouts

Fans voiced their frustration over the inadequate facilities at Pakistan’s stadiums after three matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy were washed out. The first instance occurred on February 25, when the Australia-South Africa clash at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was abandoned without a toss.

A similar scenario unfolded on February 27 at the same venue, where hosts Pakistan were set to face Bangladesh. The most recent rain-affected game took place on Friday at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where Australia’s match against Afghanistan was disrupted due to rain and poor drainage.

Before the washout, Afghanistan had posted 273 runs after winning the toss in their must-win encounter. In response, Australia raced to 109/1 in 12.5 overs before rain halted play. Although the downpour eventually stopped, the ground staff struggled to dry the outfield despite their efforts.

Due to the persistent wet conditions, match officials had no choice but to abandon the game. As a result, both teams shared a point, with the match ending without a result. Fans were frustrated with the stadiums’ drainage system, criticizing the PCB for not utilizing funds effectively to improve facilities and handle such situations better.

Afghanistan Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi reacts after CT 2025 Match vs Australia

Following the abandonment of their final group match, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi stated:

“It is unfortunate that the match had no result, It was a good game but because of rain nothing happened. We should have scored 300+ but they bowled really well specially in the middle overs. 270 was also a good score on this pitch but we did not start well with the ball. Too much width and hitting options for them, hopefully we learn from this.”

Australia secured the first semi-final spot from Group B on Friday. Meanwhile, Afghanistan still holds a slim chance of qualification, relying on England to defeat South Africa by a significant margin on Saturday.
