Virat Kohli delivered a much-needed boost to his batting form in India’s crucial 2025 ICC Champions Trophy match against arch-rivals Pakistan. Stepping onto the Dubai International Stadium pitch after the early dismissal of captain and opener Rohit Sharma, Kohli was under pressure to stabilize the innings.
India was tasked with chasing a target of 242, and Kohli wasted no time in showcasing his class. He reached his half-century in just 62 balls during the 27th over, launching a stunning shot over the covers off Pakistan’s fast-bowling sensation, Naseem Shah.
A Landmark Half-Century Amid High Tension
Kohli’s innings marked his 74th ODI half-century, a significant achievement, especially considering his struggles in the format over the past year. The Dubai crowd erupted in applause as the star batter raised his bat in celebration, acknowledging the support from his teammates in the dressing room. Despite the celebratory moment, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir appeared tense, as the match seemed poised for a thrilling finish.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had earlier set a competitive total of 241 runs, with Saud Shakeel leading their batting effort with a composed 62 off 76 balls. Captain Mohammad Rizwan contributed 46, while Khushdil Shah’s late-innings 38 added valuable runs.
India’s Chase and the Bowling Effort
India’s bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting Pakistan’s total. Kuldeep Yadav stood out with three key wickets, while pacers Harshit Rana (1-30) and Hardik Pandya (2-31) provided solid support. However, India’s run-chase got off to a shaky start when Rohit Sharma fell for just 20 runs.
Kohli, along with Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, then anchored the innings, ensuring India remained in the hunt for victory. Their composed approach helped steady the team’s innings in a high-pressure game, keeping India’s title hopes alive in the Champions Trophy.
