Team India opener Rohit Sharma is a treat to the eyes when he is in his flow. His precise timing and the ability to adjudge the length of the ball beforehand makes him a special talent. Recently, former England skipper Michael Atherton also heaped praise on Rohit and backed him to do exceedingly well in Tests.

Initially, Rohit Sharma struggled in red-ball cricket batting in the middle-order. But since his promotion at the top last year, he has been a different commodity altogether. Rohit has scored 556 runs from 10 Tests ever since.

Rohit Sharma can be successful in Tests – Michael Atherton

The way he is going about his business, there is no doubt that Rohit cannot replicate his limited-overs form in Test cricket. Michael Atherton also backed the belief during a recent chat. The Englishman feels Indian cricketers are more a product of learning while playing than focusing on coaching manuals.

“I watch Rohit and think well you can’t not be successful at Test level. He just looks such a good player that you’d think that success will come. The one thing I do enjoy watching and this is a general point about Indian batsmen is that they look very natural to me and not over-coached and forced or stilted,” Atherton said on the Sony Ten Pit Stop Show.

Moreover, Michael Atherton also spoke on India’s chances of defending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. Virat Kohli & his boys will tour down under for another four-match Test series as a part of the ICC World Test Championship.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is currently gearing up to make a return. He suffered an injury during the T20Is against New Zealand and missed the ODIs and Tests. With the lockdown easing a bit, Rohit resumed outdoor training. However, there is no news from BCCI on when they will start conducting training.
