Former Indian selector MSK Prasad has picked his squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in England. The tournament is scheduled to be played the UAE between October-November. In an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda, Prasad spoke about the side he chose and the idea behind it. India last won an ICC trophy back in 2013 ad the upcoming T20 World Cup becomes an important event for them to win. 

MSK Prasad spoke about the batsmen first and spoke about Prithvi Shaw likely to be included in the squad. Shaw showed promise in the limited-overs against Sri Lanka before he was called up join the Indian squad in England.

“I still feel that Shikhar Dhawan should be there. It should be Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw as the three openers. And the middle-order will be Virat, SKY, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Speaking about the Indian middle-order, Prasad opted for the likes of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to take the spots. 

“It looks like that, see our middle order is full now. There’s Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and if at all you are looking at another batsman, it’ll be between Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. But with both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant keeping wickets, I doubt whether they’ll go for a third one,” he explained.

Speaking about the bowlers, Prasad spoke about the wide range of options that the Indian team have the luxury to choose from. India have several spin options couple with pace options. 

Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, two off-spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin, Washington Sundar, three left-arm orthodox – Ravindra Jadeja, Krunal Pandya, Axar Patel, and a left-arm leggie in Kuldeep Yadav at their disposal.

He named Jadeja, Krunal and Sundar as automatic picks for their all-round abilities, while leaving a choice for the fourth spot between Chahal and ‘mystery spinner’ Chakravarthy.
